Off season workouts for athletes

The real work begins on the off season. Whether you are a surfer, cyclist, runner, ball player or gymnast the secret to setting a new PR, gaining more speed or obtaining more strength comes from a solid core conditioning program. These three workouts will set any athlete up for off-season success.

Workout 1:PLANK

Tackling multiple muscle groups in one, you can’t go wrong with the plank. From basketball to golf, our abdominals are a key piece of all function movement and endurance. Planks bring in all forces that is our core with lower back, abdominals, arm and upper back endurance.

Sets: 3-4 Time per exercise: Start with 20 seconds each and work up to 1 minute. Rest time between exercises: Start with 20-30 sec between exercises and work down to 15 seconds or superset.

Workout 2:CAPTAINS CHAIR

Looking for a no crunch core workout? Here it is! Not many realize the variety of exercises that can be done on the captain’s chair. Alternating between bent knee and straight knee, this workout will not only have your abs screaming for rest but help work on the strength of our hip flexors.

Sets: 3-4 Time per exercise: Start with 20 seconds each and work up to 1 minute. Rest time between exercises: Start with 20-30 sec between exercises and work down to 15 seconds or superset.

Workout 3: BALL

Underrated and overlooked, we challenge all athletes to try out our stability ball routine. If you thought this inflatable globe is nothing more than something fun to bounce on, you are wrong. A stability ball is one of the best pieces to incorporate balance within our midsection. Exercises performed with this little wonder takes a simple motion like a crunch and adds the force of gravity.
